You can give a one-off financial donation or set up a monthly donation via paypal. All money we receive goes towards the costs of postage, buying specific books that are hard to find, or other expenses of the project.
You can donate books and other items that we urgently need via our Amazon wishlist, or, if you’re trying to avoid Amazon as much as possible, have a look at our Wordery wish list, or look up a requested book on Hive.
We are currently taking donations of new and second hand books in decent condition by post. We particularly welcome:
- LGBTQIA+ materials such as books or zines, both fiction and non-fiction
- Dictionaries (English, softcover)
- Softcover activity books (adult colouring in, wordsearches, crosswords, sudoku, etc)
It is much easier for us to send softcover books to incarcerated people, so please only send hardbacks if they are LGBTQIA+ focused. It is helpful for us to know if you’re planning to make a large donation. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
We also welcome .pdf versions of zines, which we can arrange to print to include in book packages. Please email relevant zine files to email@example.com.
Please post book donations to:
Books Beyond Bars, PO Box 5554, Manchester, M61 0SQ
Unfortunately we are unable to pay for postage to receive books at present, as we are a small organisation with limited funds, most of which are used to cover the cost of posting packages to people in prison. If you are unable to pay for postage please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see if there are other projects we could signpost you to, or whether alternative arrangements could be made.
If you are based in Manchester or Salford, you can donate books in person at the Kings Arms pub on Bloom Street in Salford. Please email us if you are dropping books off so we know to come and collect them: email@example.com
